What’s the first thing you’ll do when things open up?

Hands up if you’ve heard this question recently.

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease and things start to open up, the most common thing I’ve been asked is ‘What’s the first thing you’ll do when things open up?’. Speaking personally, I’m excited to go out for a nice meal and to the theatre. But it got me thinking. Are there people that won’t be excited? I quickly came to the conclusion that there almost certainly would be.

Those with social anxiety who no longer have the restrictions as a reason for not going anywhere.

Those who may be in the vulnerable categories that now have to return to work and are worried about catching COVID-19 on public transport.

Children returning to school worried about how they will fit back into their social groups. Or worried about being ‘behind’ in class.

The list of concerns could go on and on. I guess I’m just writing this to say that whilst plenty of us, myself included, are excited for the opening of businesses and places we love, there are also going to be lots of people who maybe aren’t as excited. Whilst it may be difficult to understand, the security of being told where you can and can’t go is comforting to some people.

Just be mindful of people who may not be as excited as you are.

Stay safe.
